BSc Psychology (Hons), Post Masters in Counselling Psychology (Doctoral Level), Chartered Psychologist, Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, HCPC Registered

Area of interest: Gynaecological conditions, in particular endometriosis; Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) to process trauma

Margreet is an experienced counselling psychologist specialising in clinical health psychology which focuses on delivering a holistic treatment plan that addresses both body and mind. Within this discipline Margreet believes that body and mind interact with each other. Therefore, she tends to use the bio-psychosocial model that allows her to explore and discuss all the different domains of her clients’ life and how these affect and interact with each other. This process can be therapeutic in itself but it also allows her and her clients to draw up an individual psychological formulation and treatment plan.

Margreet works in an integrative fashion, using a number of different evidence-based, therapeutic models which means that she is able to customise her work to optimally serve clients’ unique needs. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) a trauma informed, body based therapeutic model which she often uses as part of a treatment plan, especially when trauma lies at the heart of the psychological distress.

She adopts the ‘not knowing’ stance in therapy which allows her to come to the sessions open-minded and non-judgemental. She believes it is important to build a therapeutic alliance through which rapport and trust can develop and therefore she works in a collaborative way. This means that she involves her clients in every decision in terms of therapy goals, session frequency and type of approach used. She also spends time explaining psychological formulations and treatment plans, therapeutic approaches, concepts and techniques so that clients are fully informed and can take an active part in their therapeutic process.

Margreet’s 15 years of experience lies in the NHS, non-profit sector and private practice. When she first qualified, she worked in NHS mental health services which provided her with the necessary competencies to work with a broad spectrum of psychological distress; from the severely mentally unwell, to clients who are going through a difficult period in their lives. Her specialism and passion lies in the clinical health psychology field however, and since 2011, she has enjoyed working in hospitals and health clinics, and treated all kinds of physical health conditions.

For the last 7 years, Margreet has enjoyed clinically leading an NHS maternity & gynaecology psychology service which sparked her interest in women’s health and in particular gynaecological conditions such as endometriosis. As part of her NHS role, she is a member of the Endometriosis Specialist Medical Team. This has promoted her understanding of this debilitating condition significantly and it allowed her to develop a unique skills set that recognises and addresses the many different ways women are affected by endometriosis. She regularly hold talks for medical professionals on the psychological impact of endometriosis and has presented Endometriosis UK webinars in order to highlight the psychological impact of this largely misunderstood condition.
